Follow-up Statement of the Hierarchs of the Russian True Orthodox Church-MM on the Russian Aggression in Ukraine
Yesterday we issued a statement concerning Russian aggression in Ukraine. It was our prayerful hope that the evil aggression would somehow cease, and peace would be restored. Today, we awoke to the discovery that this aggression had now turned to an invasion of a sovereign nation by the leader of the Russian Federation.
It is with horror that we witness the images of cities in Ukraine being bombed, people fleeing their homes and seeking shelter in churches and subways. Already, there has been bloodshed and fear reigns in the hearts of the people. This attack is wholly unprovoked and an act of cowardice and pure evil.
We again condemn in the strongest possible terms this unlawful invasion of Ukraine and call upon all church and world leaders to condemn these illegal actions and do everything possible to bring this war to a peaceful end.
The nation of Ukraine has been a victim to far too many atrocities throughout history. Through it all, the people have stood proud in their determination to remain free and independent. We are certain that their faith and their resolve will undoubtedly see them through this latest atrocity. May the Lord protect them and see them through this act of unmitigated evil.
United in prayer with our Ukrainian brothers and sisters, we remain
