Archpastoral Letter from Archbishop Alexy For Great Lent - February 27/February 14, 2012
To the beloved clergy, religious, and faithful of the Russian True Orthodox Church Archdiocese of North America–mercy, peace and love be yours in ever-greater measure.
Today we take our first steps on the path that leads to the Resurrection. As we do so, our minds often turn to thoughts of self denial and the ways in which we have fallen short of grace during the past year. It is often seen as a time of sadness, a time during which the light is hidden as our past failings are exposed. This, however, is far from the reality of the season in which we find ourselves. Instead of simply being the road that leads to light, it is a road of light itself if we use it to its fullest potential.
This year, rather than simply focusing on the missteps of our past let us focus on the brightness that the future holds for us. Rather than just denying ourselves in some way let us do something good for another. Let this be a time that reveals the radiance of Christ in our daily leaves. Let the joy of the Resurrection be something that we not only look forward to, but live and reveal every day of our lives.
May the day of Resurrection find us renewed and spiritually refreshed and may the light that has guided us during these days continue to guide us on the road to salvation.
Sincerely in Christ,
