Archpastoral Letter from Archbishop Alexy For Great Lent - March 14/1, 2005
To the beloved clergy, religious, and faithful of the Russian True Orthodox Church Archdiocese of North America–mercy, peace and love be yours in ever-greater measure.
Once again, we find ourselves embarking upon the journey that leads us to the Resurrection. This sacred period of the Great Fast is given to us as a means by which we can examine the road upon which we have been walking and see if it is the one that leads to salvation.
Without doubt, all of us have veered from the straight path during the past year—some losing our way, others finding the way home. Regardless, however, of which category we fall into, the good news that is ours during this period of preparation is that it is never too late to find our way back home.
What we need to remember as we begin the fast is that no one is without the need for repentance and no one is beyond the infinite reach of the Father.
As we enter into this sacred period let us all be honest with ourselves about where we are today in our spiritual journey and where we would like to be with God’s help. Let us also remember those who journey with us and lift up and support one another in prayer.
May our road lead us to places that will fill us with joy beyond our imagination and inspire us never again to tread upon some of the paths upon which we have walked.
With the bestowal of my episcopal blessing upon you, I remain
Sincerely in Christ,
